How to stay productive while doing remote school!

COVID-19 forced SDSU to move classes online. And as we all know, it’s really hard to stay productive when you’re streaming in from home. Let’s face it - you can sleep in as long as you want and procrastinating is almost encouraged because you can watch your lectures any time! So here’s some quick tips and resources from some of our mentors to help you stay on top of everything and make the most of your time! Hope they help!

  1. Make a To-do List

“One of the most important reasons for keeping a to-do list is the organization. Organizing your tasks with a list can make everything much more manageable and make you feel grounded. Seeing a clear outline of your completed and uncompleted tasks will help you feel organized and stay mentally focused.” - Toodledo

  2. Create Goals for this coming Semester

“Goals give you a starting point and a destination to reach. ... The process of writing your goals helps you clarify what you desire to do, understand the importance of pursuing them and commit yourself to making them happen.” - Leadtoimpact

Since many of us have a lot more time on our hands with the shelter-in-place, we can use this time to learn a new skill, develop existing ones, or finally learn how to play that old guitar that’s been collecting dust in the corner of your room!

  3. Have a Weekly Schedule

“Scheduling is the art of planning your activities so that you can achieve your goals and priorities in the time you have available. When it's done effectively, it helps you: Understand what you can realistically achieve with your time. Make sure you have enough time for essential tasks.” - Mindtools

Try to have consistent times of when you go to bed, wake up, do things like your DT (Devotional Times), stream your classes, eat, study, exercise, and definitely include study breaks! This will not only help you stay healthy, but will help you make the best use of your day and accomplish everything you want to get done without the last-minute panic.

  4. Have a Monthly and Semester Schedule

This is important to help you plan ahead, so you know when big projects or tests are coming up. No surprises :)

  5. Practice Gratitude

There’s a lot of uncertainty in the air, whether that be everything going on with the coronavirus, how that will impact your classes, relationships, and even finances. But one thing that’s important is to practice gratitude, because regardless of what happens, we all have so much that we can be thankful for!

We created a google doc that can serve as a template for you that already includes all these components! Feel free to copy it to your own google drive and personalize it, and you’re already off to a good start! Just click on the image below!

Hang in there, and let’s hope everything improves as people get vaccinated so SDSU can reopen again soon!
